The Next Chapter
Seven days to pause, reconnect and explore what’s possible. No pressure to have all the answers. Just space to explore the questions.
What if your next chapter started with a pause?
You’ve worked hard to get where you are. You’ve built a career, taken on responsibility and navigated expectations that others may not fully see.
But have you had time to think about what you want next?
Not what’s expected or what looks good on paper, but what you want more of in your career, leadership and life.
The Next Chapter is an intimate retreat in beautiful Tobago for 6–8 women of colour, combining coaching, reflection, connection and rest — to help you put new ideas into action.
This isn’t about escaping your life. It’s about creating space to imagine how you want to live it.
Five elements, woven together
The Next Chapter brings together five elements to help you reconnect with yourself and consider what comes next.
Leadership & career
Explore your ambitions, confidence, leadership identity and the decisions shaping your future.
Reflection & possibility
Step back from your current circumstances and give yourself permission to imagine what your next chapter could look and feel like.
Rest & wellbeing
Slow down, restore your energy and make room for yourself. Rest is part of the work. Not something you have to earn.
Connection & community
Share honest conversations and build lasting relationships with women of colour navigating their own questions about work, leadership and life.
The Tobago experience
Enjoy the island’s natural beauty, culture, food and relaxed pace, with time for discovery and simply being.
Before, during & after
The Next Chapter is designed as a guided journey, not just a week away. Here’s how it’s shaping up.
Before Tobago: Prepare
Two virtual coaching sessions to take stock of where you are, explore what matters most and identify the questions you’d like to bring with you.
In Tobago: Pause, envision & choose
The week is planned around a gentle arc, with each guided day building on the last:
Guided sessions will be balanced with rest, culture, connection and downtime. The flow may evolve as plans are finalized, and registered participants will receive a detailed itinerary.
After you return: Keep the momentum
Two follow-up coaching sessions, about one and three months later, to help you put your insights into practice, celebrate progress and adjust as life unfolds.
Real change doesn’t happen in one week. It’s what you do with what you discover that matters.
The Next Chapter may be for you if…
You don’t need to be at a crossroads to deserve a pause.
Sometimes, pausing to reflect is simply a way of being intentional about the life you’re creating.
Jennifer Purcell
After more than 30 years working in public service leadership, I now coach women of colour as they navigate career decisions, leadership challenges and new possibilities.
In my coaching conversations, I often meet women who’ve worked hard, achieved a great deal and spent years meeting the expectations of others. But when I ask what they want next, the answer isn’t always clear.
Not because they lack ambition or direction. Sometimes, they’ve simply had little time to pause, reflect and consider what they want for themselves.
I created The Next Chapter to offer that opportunity: a chance to step away from the demands of everyday life, have meaningful conversations, reconnect with what matters and begin imagining what’s possible — without having to figure it all out alone.
And Tobago feels like a natural place to bring this vision to life. My family is from Trinidad, and I’ve visited often over the years. I’m looking forward to sharing the beauty and warmth of its sister island, Tobago, with the women who join me.
For me, The Next Chapter brings together two things I believe deeply in: the power of meaningful coaching conversations and what becomes possible when we give ourselves space to think differently.
Frequently asked questions
Why a retreat for women of colour?
There’s something powerful about being with women who understand some of your experiences without needing everything explained.
The Next Chapter is an opportunity to speak openly about ambition, identity, leadership and life, celebrate how far you’ve come and explore what you want next.
Not because there’s something about you that needs fixing, but because you deserve the chance to consider what’s next on your own terms.
When and where will the retreat take place?
The Next Chapter is planned for seven days in April 2027 on the beautiful island of Tobago, with a small group of 6–8 women. Exact dates will be confirmed soon.
Why Tobago?
Tobago is Trinidad’s smaller, quieter sister island in the southern Caribbean, where life moves a little slower and there’s room to breathe. Think beautiful beaches, coral reefs, lush rainforest, warm hospitality and liming — the local art of relaxing and enjoying time together.
April falls in the dry season, with warm, sunny days that are ideal for slowing down, reflecting and reconnecting.
What’s included?
The experience will combine leadership and career coaching, guided reflection, connection with other women, rest and time to enjoy Tobago.
Four virtual coaching sessions are also planned — two before the retreat and two after — to help you prepare and put your insights into action.
